A horror story

I was on holiday in Wisconsin Dells with my parents and I hated this place. One morning we were looking for a restaurant for breakfast, when we passed a souvenir shop. I remembered, that I needed a present for my girlfriend, Laura. Mum and dad walked on. I was looking at the souvenirs when a girl with black hair and blue eyes spoke to me:” Hi Richard!”, she said.I didn’t know the girl, so how did she know my name!?
And who was the man behind her?!
“How are you?”, said the girl. ”WHO are you!?” I asked, but suddenly the girl disappeared.
The next day I went into a shop. There were the girl and the man. “Hi Richard!”, she said. “I don’t know you!!!” I shouted, but she dissappeared one more time.
Who are the girl and the man?! I will hold her when she comes again! So she can’t disappear!!!
She came the next day, but this time she appeared in my room. “ I love you!”, she said “But I don’t love YOU!!” I answered. “ I don’t know who you are!! So I can’t!!!” “ You love me!!! I know it!!!”, she shouted at me. “ You MUST!!!!!!” and she slowly went to me.. . ..
Tap. . . Tap. . . Tap. . . Then she looked down and said” YOU MUST” she looked into my eyes and I saw, that she had red eyes. No black, no blue - just red.
On her head I saw two small horns. Her teeth were bemired with blood and they were sharp - very sharp. “If you don’t love me, you will be dead tomorrow. And your death will be terrible!!!” she whispered. I was scared. She wanted to kill me!!! But…how!? By killing me with a knife !? Maybe…hmm……
“ I don’t want to kill you with a knife ! I will rip out your lashes !” She took a red knife. Red like the blood on her teeth. Suddenly her eyes were blue. Blue like the sea with a little bit black in it.
“Help me! I love you! But I am cursed. Help me! Help!” “but how can I help you!?” I asked.“ You have to ram a stick into the heart of the man who always stands behind me. He is a demon! He has cursed me!!!
He is not dead, but he also doesn’t live. He is a demon!!! Help me!”she screamed.
Then she disappeared. The next day I went to the shop where I met her for the first time. I took a stick with me.
I thought that she was in the shop. And I thought right. The demon was behind her. I acted as if I had not seen them.
Suddenly I put the stick into the heart of the demon. Black blood splashed through the shop. The demon screamed. He changed into a monster with big horns , shark claws and red fur. And he had red wings of leather.
Then he disappeared. Forever… The girl cried” thank you!!!thank you sooo much!!!! But the curse still holds. That is why I am not able to go out of this town. I’m so sorry.”
I loved her at once. But I was not able to forget her red eyes. “ I must go home now.. I can’t stay with you! My mum and dad.. Our home isn’t here. I am so sorry!!!” I said. Then I called a taxi. I went to the airport.. To my parents.. On the way home… Away from the girl…

Grandma Gupta is hard of hearing

Jenny wanted to talk to Sanjay. So she phoned him. The telephone rang.
Grandma:Hello? Who is there? (she spoke slowly)
Jenny:Hello. It´s me Jenny.
Grandma:Who? Jeremy? I think Sita is too old for you!
Jenny:No. I´m…
Grandma:Yes. I think you must find a new girlfriend.
Jenny:Grandma Gupta!
Grandma:Yes I´m here! Don´t shout Jeremy! I´m not hard of hearing. This isn´t nice…
Jenny thought:Oh, Grandma! You´re as hard of hearing as a peanut.
Jenny:I just wanna talk to…
Grandma:Be quiet! And listen when I´m talking. You´re not a gentleman. Sita deserves a better boyfriend than you.
Jenny (shouted):Grandma! Shut up! I want to talk to Sanjay and I´m not Jeremy. I´m Jenny. J-E-double N-Y.
Grandma:Oh, Jenny! I´m sorry. But don´t shout. You haven´t got a reason. I´m not hard of hearing.
Jenny:Grandma. Give the phone to Sanjay. Please!
Grandma:Oh! Sanjay isn´t here. He left the house in this moment.
Jenny:So! Run and call him.
Grandma:Ok. No panic.
.......10 minutes later……
Grandma opened the front door and shouted: "Sanjay! Sanjay, come on!" Then she closed the door.
........10 minutes later……
Grandma:Sorry. He was too fast. He didn´t hear me!
Jenny (angry):Oh no!

GREEN LAKE STAR

We have a lot of new information for you. Yesterday there was an interesting incident at
Camp Green Lake, where young boys can go to build their characters.
We were “live” at the camp and interviewed many people. For example the owner of the
camp called the Warden told us that there was a treasure but some selfish kids stole it. Mr. Sir
and Mr. Pedanski, two other adults of the camp said the same. And also they said that they
only wanted the best for the boys and wanted to help them. But the boys are too crazy.
But on the other side some boys told us that the Warden and the others lied. They only took
advantage of the boys to find a treasure they were looking for. They’re very egoistic and they
treated them very badly.
So you can decide what you believe and what not. But later the court will decide.
We will report on it again.

Camp Green Lake

We visited Camp Green Lake last week and found some strange things there. Stanley Yelnats
told us what had happened at the Camp and what role he played in the events. Stanley: “We
had to dig holes every day because it was said it builds our character, but I knew the warden
was searching for something. So I ran away following my friend Zero. After a while we
secretly returned back to Green Lake and found a treasure. That was what the warden had
been looking for I thought, but it wasn’t hers. There was my name on it”. Stanley told us how
he has become stronger and more self-confident in the Camp.

The treasure of Camp Green Lake

First of all, Camp Green Lake is a camp for bad boys. Maybe you have already heard about it
the last days because something weird happened there. We asked Stanley Yelnats about it,
he’s one of the boys who played an important role there. “It was some kind of adventure”,
said Stanley while Clyde Livingston sat next to him, “at the beginning I had to dig holes.
Every day another hole…I began to lose weight and I guess I found new friends.” Smilingly
he pointed to Hector Zeronie and this boy continued:
“After a little while at the camp I didn’t want to dig holes anymore and I ran away after I had
hit one of the counsellors with my shovel.” This counsellor is Mr. Pendanski, a wonderfully
caring man, whose comment on this statement was: “Bloody nobody, ehm well everything
was fine there.” Stanley told us about one day, when he found a golden tube and later on
everyone was searching in the dirt so they might find something. But they found nothing
because it was the wrong place where they were searching. “Yeah, wrong place but never
mind I got one day off…Stanley gave that tube to me because I was the longest time there and
he thought it would be unfair if he got a day off. So we all searched in my hole not in his”, X-
Ray said, shrugging. Then the Warden came and sent X-Ray back. With a smile she told us
how the story went on: “Well, Zero (Hector) ran away and I was so worried! In the desert
nobody can stay alive and I was so shocked when Stanley decided to look for him. It was so
surprising! But thank god they came back…in the night. One of them fell into a hole and we
came out of the cabin to see what was going on.”
Then this woman started to cry and we had to ask somebody else. We interviewed Stanley
again and he told us about a treasure. “Zero and I started to dig a hole, where I found the tube
and we really found it!” Now happy ending, the treasure was found and Hector and Stanley
are rich now. The warden had to close the camp because of “a big lizard nest”, she said, and
has never been seen again.

Book Review I

„Holes“ tells the story of Stanley Yelnats, an overweight, unlucky young boy who’s also cursed. This curse began with his no-good-dirty-rotten- pig-stealing-great-great-grandfather and has followed generations of Yelnats. The whole family blames this Yelnats and has always bad luck in any situation. One of these unlucky events is the false arrest because of stealing a celebrity´s sneakers, which fell from the sky directly onto Stanley’s head. When he was arrested he was given the choice between jail and Camp Green Lake. Of course he chose Camp Green Lake! But this camp has no lake and it’s not a real camp, not even green. The reason for the title of this novel „Holes“ is because it really fits this book but doesn’t anticipate anything. The boys at Camp Green Lake have to dig one hole every day in the hot sun. It should be five feet deep and five feet wide in any direction. In the course of events we get to know more about the curse and the history of this lake and its secrets. The Warden and the other counsellors tell the boys, that the digging is for building character but Stanley doesn’t take long to find out, that it’s not so. The Warden is looking for something which has something to do with the lake’s past, the story of Kissing Kate Barlow, an outlaw, and with Stanley’s family. But not only mysteries and crimes are part of this story, it is also about friendship and about trust and luck. Stanley has never had a real friend and when he comes to Camp Green Lake he gets to know Zero and they become very good friends. They trust and help each other in every situation. In the end the curse seems to be lifted by Stanley and the mysteries seem to be solved and after these events his family and he seem to be a lot more lucky.

The local setting is almost always the desert of Camp Green Lake. But there is also a change in the time, sometimes it’s the dried up lake and sometimes it’s a red lake with green mountains and the peach trees around it. So theses changes in the landscape make the other changes clearer and also the big contrast between the present and the past times.

“Holes” is a combination of three stories. The main story is of course the story of Stanley and his adventures and new experiences at Camp Green Lake: The friendship with Zero and the relationships to the other boys he gets to know better and his arguments with the counsellors and the Warden.

The other strand is the history of the curse which Stanley’s family seems to be part of. We get to know about Stanley’s great-great-grandfather and how he and his family had been cursed. The young Elya Yelnats lived in Latvia and fell in love with the beautiful but stupid Myra Menke. A friend of his, Madame Zeroni, wanted to help him to satisfy Myra’s father so he could marry her, instead of an old man, who wanted to give a lot for her. But there was a condition by Madame Zeroni. Elya should carry her up the mountain to let her drink from a special spring one more time before she died. But Elya forgot to keep the promise and he settled in America without Myra Menke.

The third story is about Camp Green Lake’s history. It tells us why the lake dried up and who Kissing Kate Barlow was, who had robbed Stanley’s great-grandfather and had left him straight in the desert.

I think this book is worth reading. In the course of time you get more and more into that book. It’s a little bit bizarre and strange but also smart and fun for everyone who likes books of adventures and mysteries. I guess it’s for every age and nearly everybody can read it. It makes you follow the story and the more you read the more you find out about the history and you combine the different strands of stories to one whole story. It’s quite nice to see, how an unlucky and overweight boy, who has always been bullied in school, changes to a thinner and more self-confident boy, with a good friend at his side. These three strands of the stories are also very well linked. The onions, the peaches, the shoes and many more details you’ll find. And watch out for the lizards…

Book Review II

Holes

An old woman put a curse on the Yelnats family. They always seem to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Stanley Yelnats was in the wrong place at the wrong time and had to go to Camp Green Lake. There is no lake and no rain. It’s obviously not a camp, it’s a prison. The desert boys have to dig holes every day, because the warden tells them, it will improve their characters. Stanley soon realizes that the warden is looking for something and he wants to know what it is. He gets new friends and has lots of problems there. One day he searches for a boy called Zero, because he has run away. Stanley finds him and they become friends because they help each other to stay alive. In the end they find the treasure the warden has been looking for and can go home because Stanley’s lawyer has released them.

The main character is Stanley. He is the boy who first notices that the warden has something on her mind. He isn’t strong but he saves the life of his friend. In the end of the book he becomes stronger and he likes himself.

Then there is Zero, he is a nobody, because everybody things he is stupid, but reading the book the reader learns that he is very intelligent and helpful.

The warden is the devil in the story, everybody is scared of her. In the end she gets what she deserves. She probably goes to prison.

The conflict of the novel is the one between unfairness and friendship. Stanley hasn’t stolen the shoes and he is at the camp. Than Zero isn’t stupid but all of the guys think so.

The major symbols of the novel are the holes. They stand for the work the boys should do and the lake, where the holes are, wasn’t dry…Holes is also the title of the book.

I like the book, it shows what “real friendship” is. I think it was easy to read and to understand. It was very exciting and the language was easy to understand. The story was something different and not like all the stories, in which it tells about love. “Holes” tell us much of friends and how you can learn to like yourself, if you don’t like yourself. I liked it =)

Book Review III

The novel “Holes” written by Louis Sachar tells about a boy who goes to a camp. His name is Stanley Yelnats. By reason of adjudication Stanley must go to Camp Green Lake although he is innocent. At Camp Green Lake everything is different from Stanley’s expectations. There isn’t a lake only the desert. Every day all the boys must dig a hole. The owner of Camp Green Lake is the Warden. She’s a woman. There the other adults are very strict like the Warden. At the camp Stanley’s life changes. He finds a new friend and discovers the secret of the Warden. The plot is set in a desert. Years ago there was a lake, but it has dried up. Now it’s very hot and not so much shade. It never rains. At the end of the novel Stanley and his friend Zero walk to the mountain “Big Thumb” near the Camp. There is water and there are plants, especially onions. The onions play a big role in the novel because they often connect the chapters. For example Stanley and Zero are alive only because they eat onions and in the flashbacks there’s an onion men who rescues other people´s lives with onions. The most important character of the novel is Stanley. The narrator tells many things about his family and his life. And later Zero is a main character, too. First he’s very quiet and calm. But then he becomes Stanley’s friend and they help each other very often. The other boys in the Camp are important, too. They’re all different. One of them is the boss and the others do what he says. And there’s the Warden. She’s very important. Because of her and her egotism the boys have to dig holes all the time. Also Kate Barlow is very important. She appears in a subplot. The reader only news stories about her in flashbacks. But for the plot she’s very important! The basic conflict of the novel is the story of Camp Green Lake and how it fits in with the present. I think the themes of the novel are real friendship, love and people changing. The structure of the novel isn’t always easy. Sometimes there are flashbacks about Stanley’s family or the past of Camp Green Lake. The title of the novel is “Holes”. This is because the boys at Camp Green Lake always have to dig holes. I like the novel. Sometimes it’s a little bit boring, because the plot is difficult. But I think it’s good that you have to think about it to understand. I love books where you have surprises. And this is one! The novel has a lot of tension and so I like reading it.
